[Seasonal Life Tips / Using electrical appliances from other regions]

Since the electric frequency differs in east and west Japan, some electrical appliances cannot be used in both zones. Also, electrical appliances used in countries with a different voltage than Japan cannot be used here without an adapter. Please consult an electric appliance store.

[Ask a Foreigner: What I like about Nara living / PTA activities]

I am a second-generation Japanese from Brazil. I have a son attending high school, and have been a PTA (parent-teacher association) committee member since he was attending kindergarten. Many parents have a tendency to stay away from PTA activities because of the large commitment, but I am very ‘gung ho’ about being involved. Since having joined the committee, I have been able to form connections with other parents and teachers, and as a result, I have learned many things. I think that by becoming actively involved, foreign parents can benefit in many ways from the experience. I believe it is an especially great chance for foreign parents who do not know Japanese language well to get to know about the schools and children, as well as widen their circle of friends.
