[Cultural Seed of Knowledge - Gifts – Custom of giving a return gift]

In Japan, there is a custom of giving gifts at special turning points in life.
These gifts are wrapped using “mizuhiki” (a type of ribbon) and/or “noshi” (a traditional ornament).
When such a gift is received, a gift must be given in return.
There are many customs related to how gifts should be chosen and wrapped.
Since customs vary from region to region, it is best to get advice from staff at such gift counters at your local department store.

[Seasonal Life Tips / Keeping clothes in good condition (mothballs / insect repellant & dehumidifier)]

The weather conditions in Japan’s four seasons vary greatly.
Clothes used for each season are usually stored in wardrobes and drawers, etc.
Other clothing is normally stored in storage cases or in closets.
If clothes are stored in storage cases for long periods during warm, humid weather, the clothes may be damaged by insects and mildew.
If you intend to store clothes for long periods, use insect repellant and dehumidifier.
