In Japan there are rules for writing names in onefs belongings which vary from school to school. Make sure you confirm that with the teachers and guardians of the same school, follow the rules and then write the name in the appropriate place.

Also, it might be the case that there are uniforms for primary / junior high school. At some schools, they wear it only on special days (for events). It would be a good idea to get the uniforms secondhand in this situation.
